Surrounded in all directions by matrix forest of hemlock-red oak-tulip poplar/giant rhododendron or variants. Downhill is a dirt road. Uphill is a cliff band.;Bouldery colluvial slope downhill from a sandstone cliff band. Community here is a deciduous forest dominated by a red oak and tulip poplar in the canopy. There are scattered tall shrubs, but understory is dominated by woody vine species (Virginia creeper, raspberries) mosses and a few ferns and forbs.
Representativeness
Stand of deciduous forest with no Rhododendron maximum in a fairly large patch of this physiognomy which is uncommon on the gorge slopes around here.
